In the foreseeable future, our team plans to develop an extended and more functional Telegram client that could show users all the benefits of switching to blockchain technologies.

Motivation

The development of the Internet has contributed to the fact that several large Internet corporations have data about users. The concept of Web 2.0 developed by Tim O'Reilly proves that systems that are built with all account interactions in mind get better when as many people as possible use them.

The main proof of this assumption is that the largest social networks that unite billions of people store hundreds of petabytes of data.

You probably didn’t think that if the service you use is free (for example, a messenger, video platform, or mailbox), then the main product is the user himself, who unfortunately loses his privacy. Such services collect all information about users in order to later sell it as an advertisement for a company that will offer a higher amount of money. Literally, every Internet resource monitors users and this is our reality and not some kind of conspiracy theory.

But the solution in such a situation can be Web 3.0 or the “Decentralized Network”, which is actively developing and allows you to create services that are not related to the “central” organization. With Web 3.0, users will be able to regain their privacy and transparency in data management. These days, both industries are big enough to compete in different areas. And our goal is to take the best from both industries and create something between centralized and decentralized services.

Now Internet users are actively using social networks such as Telegram, Whatsapp, Facebook, and TikTok for communication, content sharing, and self-expression. Thus, in order for the user to want to move to a new environment, he must see obvious benefits and have a strong motivation. Such advantages can be, for example, anonymity or the availability of additional functions and capabilities.

In order to realize all the benefits in one new project, it will take a lot of time and attention to detail in order for the final product to turn out to be of high quality. That is why cooperation with already existing popular centralized services is quite reasonable. After all, it will be much easier to develop a hybrid product this way.

The goal of the Velas team was to decentralize centralized services, that is, to transform hidden business models into open ones that are easily socially regulated. To achieve our goal, you need to take into account the entire range of services that will help in its implementation.

A good example would be Telegram, which has an audience of over 400 million people. So this social network allows you to develop applications of any type, thereby allowing each user to take part in expanding the functionality of the service.

Or Status.im is a decentralized chat with a built-in crypto wallet. Users did not massively switch to this service leaving Telegram, even taking into account the cryptographic capabilities of Status.im. This only proves that greater anonymity in connection with cryptocurrencies is not enough to stop users from being comfortable using Telegram.

That is why we at Velas want to develop an extended and more functional Telegram client that could demonstrate to users all the advantages of the blockchain.

Additional features:

  • Built-in crypto wallet.
  • Added closed groups.
  • Embedded Applications.
  • Built-in video stream (makes Telegram more social).
  • Data synchronization and contact list.

In the end, it will be the same Telegram (at least visually) but with advanced features that give access to decentralized technologies.

Built-in crypto wallet

Users can send cryptocurrencies using direct send or by paying an invoice.

Added closed groups

The Telegram social network already has secret chats between users, but this function does not exist for large numbers of users. We want to add secret groups so that many users can communicate securely and anonymously.

Embedded applications

Telegram has bots that expand the potential of the service as a client with multiple applications. But these bots are limited to text and image buttons. This feature can be improved thanks to the React Native Components interface, which will allow each organization to individually customize the UI / UX of their bot.

Embedded video stream

At the moment, Telegram is a chat service. And for example, WeChat is a full-fledged social network. So we want to improve Telegram by adding social networking features to it.

Data synchronization and contact list

There is no need for users to invite each of their friends to a separate chat because he gets access to the list of contacts and other data with which they interacted before.

In this way, users can be motivated to switch from a regular Telegram client to BitOrbit with support for the Velas blockchain. So the audience will have new opportunities to interact with the decentralized world thanks to the VLX internal currency, which will allow you to make fast transactions and provide access to DApps, DeFi, and synthetic assets (vBTC).

This article showcases Velas products and what our team has been working on for the past year. We cover everything from integrated crypto wallets and everything related to them to DPOS. You definitely won't want to miss this kind of news!
